A Childhood Erased. Gifts That Refused to Stay Buried.
This is the story of what was taken, what survived, and what I am still becoming.
I have no memories before the age of eight. Not a fragment. Not a face. Not a single morning of waking up and knowing where I was.
What I have instead is a wall — smooth, featureless, and absolute. On one side: the person I am now. On the other: a child I cannot reach, living a life I cannot see.
For most of my adult life, I accepted this as simply the way things were. Some people forget their childhoods. I forgot mine more completely than most. I told myself this was ordinary.
The Book
Paranormalities is the account I have been building toward for thirty years. It is the story of the childhood I cannot remember, the abilities I was not supposed to keep, and the long, strange work of trying to understand what was done to me and why.
It is not a comfortable book. It does not offer easy explanations or tidy resolutions. What it offers is the truth, as precisely as I can render it — which is the only thing I know how to give.
Learn about the bookThe Daily Essays
Every day, I publish a new essay here. Each one is a fragment of the larger investigation — a piece of the story, a question I am sitting with, a memory that has surfaced, an experience I am trying to understand.
The essays are the work in progress. The book is where it arrives.
